Aromas of chocolate pudding, blackberry pie, mocha spice and vanilla oak. On the palate: savoury spice, mocha and plummy sweetness through the palate. Full flavoured, the tannins are silky and integrated, with sage and black currant characters, framing this more restrained vintage of McLaren Vale Shiraz.
2017 was a year where they had some magnificent rains during spring, so the soil profiles were full to the brim comebudburst. This meant they had a bumper crop year, with a long slow ripening period. A great follow up to the Halliday 95pointed 2016 vintage.
This is the fifteenth release of the Langtons Classified HJ Reserve Shiraz. HJ is picked from the very best parcels of old vine Shiraz on the Taranga vineyard– it has been barrel selected and bottle aged for optimum enjoyment. Named after the grandfather Herbert John 'HJ' Oliver, they know he would be very proud of his namesake wine. The Taranga vineyard, is in McLaren Vale. Sourced from the ‘Old Block’, planted by HJ Oliver in 1948.
